Bigscreen Beyond 2: August Production Update

Bigscreen Beyond 2: August Production Update

We've been hard at work shipping Bigscreen Beyond 2 and Beyond 2e to customers around the world. We're excited to ship more and more Beyonds each week, and we apologize for the delays and slower than anticipated production in the production ramp up period. While we could give many understandable reasons and excuses, we know it is ultimately a highly frustrating experience for tens of thousands of fans in our community passionately waiting months for their Bigscreen Beyonds to arrive. We appreciate your patience, and we cannot wait for you all to experience the incredible visuals in Bigscreen Beyond 2!

Latest Schedule

The schedules below are realistic estimates with all the information available to us from the production lines at this time. With further work to production speed (see below), some customers may get their Beyond 2 faster than we project. With unanticipated delays, things may slip a bit. These schedules have some built-in buffer room and are therefore estimated ranges rather than guaranteed delivery dates.

Surprise upgrades for Beyond 1 customers to a Beyond 2

For customers that ordered a Beyond 1 a short time before Beyond 2 was announced, we secretly held back those orders and upgraded them to the Beyond 2. We have completed 97% of these shipments.

Orders with a Beyond 2 or 2e and a Custom-Fit Cushion

March 2025 preorders: We previously estimated completing all March orders between August 15 and August 30. We had planned to ship half of March preorders by July 25 and failed to achieve that goal. Some interesting data points: 22% of March Beyond 2s have now shipped, and March is the largest batch of preorder customers. We are on schedule to complete March orders by August 30.

April 2025 preorders: We previously estimated finishing April preorders between mid-August and September 10. Most will ship by September 10, and this batch is expected to be fully shipped by September 15.

May-June 2025 preorders: We previously anticipated completing May orders by September 11, and June orders between September 18-24. Most will ship on time, and we expect to complete May preorders by September 22, and June preorders by September 29.

July 2025 preorders: Originally, July 2025 preorders were scheduled for a September or October shipment and it remains on schedule. They begin shipping in September, and we expect to complete all July shipments by October 13

August 2025 preorders: new orders placed today are expected to ship by early November as demand for Beyond 2 continues to grow.

VRChat Edition: the first batch of the VRChat Edition is expected to arrive on August 29, and shipments will begin shortly after that. This remains on schedule.

Orders with a Beyond 2 or 2e Upgrade

For customers who previously purchased a Beyond 1 and are upgrading to the Beyond 2, the 2 & 2e Upgrades have started shipping in the past week and will complete shipping at the same schedule mentioned above.

Orders with a Beyond 2 or 2e and Halo Mount (Universal-Fit Cushion)

The Halo Mount production is underway. Orders with the Halo Mount – instead of the Custom-Fit Cushion – are expected to ship in October. As mentioned in the last update, if you wish to receive your Beyond 2 sooner, please email Customer Support at support@bigscreenvr.com to purchase the Custom-Fit Cushion. Adding the Custom-Fit Cushion to your order will enable it to ship faster, and the Halo Mount will ship to you separately when ready in October.

Improvements to Production Speed

Our production rate is still approximately 40% of our ideal target. Our current production output is barely keeping up with our sales. The team has faced many challenges and delays in the past couple of weeks, from hurricanes impacting our supply chain in Asia, to unexpected component manufacturing challenges, and even COVID taking out half of our team. Understandably, this is frustrating for the community that has been waiting several months to receive their Bigscreen Beyond preorder.

In the past few months, we've made several improvements to production speed, and we continue to improve lately in several key ways.

One key bottleneck is the speed of image capture in automated test stations that use computer vision. We've been working on software algorithm improvements, and installing faster cameras and even faster PCs – we're loving the new AMD Ryzen Threadripper 7985WX 64-core CPUs on the production line!

We also continue to hire technicians and engineers to help our production output. Once we implement process improvements, the community will typically see a noticeable uptick in production output 2-3 weeks later. Our community has recently noticed such an uptick, and that was the result of improvements we previously announced.

We expect to achieve our target production output by mid-September. We'll maintain this high rate of output through the holiday season, as we expect demand to keep rising for Bigscreen Beyond 2.

Why do some orders ship out of order?

We often get questions from customers wondering why someone else received an order before their earlier preorder. Rest assured, we are focused on shipping First in, First Out (FIFO), in the order of each preorder. There are many good reasons for why we sometimes ship out of order.

As explained in previous updates, we typically manufacture in batches. For example, an entire day may be focused on Beyond 2e Orange devices, and the next day, we shift to a different color or product SKU.

To avoid overbuilding certain variants and shipping too much outside of the queue order, we're implementing new data-driven improvements in how we schedule builds. This should start to have a positive impact in the upcoming weeks.

When will Bigscreen Beyond 2 be in stock and ship faster?

When we launched Bigscreen Beyond 2 in March 2025, we had originally planned to have significant inventory on hand by August such that new orders would ship within 1-3 days of placing an order. It took us 1 year to have inventory for the original Bigscreen Beyond 1 as we would regularly sell out quickly each time we achieved a new level of production.

With Beyond 2, we experienced unprecedented (and growing) demand, as well as a delayed/slower start in mass production. This means there will not be spare inventory for fast shipments until early 2026. Customers placing new orders later in 2025 will unfortunately always experience a couple weeks (or more) of wait time. Going into the 2025 holiday season with the current trajectory of growing sales, we expect to constantly run out of stock as fast as we can produce new units.

What's Next

We've been working on a long-awaited detailed update on how eyetracking works with Bigscreen Beyond 2e, how it works with OpenXR games, and how it works in games like VRChat with OSC and VRCFT. We've also been collaborating with and supporting 3rd-party developers like Babble and EyeTrackVR, and we're excited for community-driven and open source alternatives for customers to use with Beyond 2e. We'll have a development roadmap to share, as well as in-depth engineering explanations on how our novel eyetracking technology works. Stay tuned for another update in the coming days!
