Universal-Fit Cushions: Now Shipping

As mentioned in last week's production update, after months of challenges with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and tariffs, we're thrilled to announce the Bigscreen Beyond 2 with Universal-Fit Cushions are now shipping!

As a contextual reminder, the Bigscreen Beyond 2 can be purchased with one of two options: with the Custom-Fit Cushion, or with the Halo Mount and Universal-Fit Cushion. We started shipping Beyond 2 with the Custom-Fit Cushion 5 months ago and today, we've started shipping Beyond 2 orders with the Universal-Fit Cushion.

Production Update

December is poised to be our largest month of shipping, ever. We will ship more Beyond 2s this month than we ever did in an entire year of Beyond 1 shipping in 2023 or 2024.

We originally expected to ship every Bigscreen Beyond 2 preorder through October by the end of this year, and expected November orders to ship in January. We're likely to get very close to this goal, but we expect the last remaining September and October units will ship in early January.

We've successfully shipped the vast majority of Beyond 2 preorders through August that had a Custom-Fit Cushion. The VRChat Edition in "Atomic Purple" continues to be a surprisingly popular choice, and it's taking longer to complete those shipments.  The latest estimated shipment schedule is below:

For the past few weeks, we've been preparing a large volume of Beyond 2s to be shipped with the Universal-Fit Cushion this month. The estimated shipping schedule for customers that ordered a Halo Mount with Universal-Fit Cushion is below:

Halo Mount Updates

A few weeks ago, we made the difficult decision of delaying the Halo Mount in order to further refine the product quality. This year, we've built multiple iterations of the Halo Mount to fine tune the user experience. 

Like a typical development process, we produced 100 Halo Mounts in the most recent DVT build. The positive customer feedback was relatively obvious: customers liked how lightweight it felt, the fit-and-finish of the plastics and CNC metals, the improved breathability, the comfort of the Universal-Fit Cushion, and the surprising benefit of using the Beyond 2 open-air with no cushion.

As with every feedback cycle, we focus most on the negative feedback in order to improve the ultimate product experience. We're now improving the flip-up mechanism, changing the mounting bracket to a solution without adhesive tapes, improving the range of tilt, and improving comfort for certain customer headshapes when paired with the Audio Strap.

Perhaps the most important change: we're ensuring the next iteration of the Halo Mount mounting bracket works well with 3rd-party accessories. Developers have been notified and CAD files and samples have been shared. We're also developing dedicated mounting points in the Halo Mount mounting bracket to securely attach Face Trackers and similar devices onto your Bigscreen Beyond.

The Halo Mount is built with a modular design combining injection molded plastics, metals, and CNC'd parts. CNCing parts and minor tool modifications enables relatively rapid iteration, compared to the iteration speed of devices like the Beyond headset or the Audio Strap. The next build will be in January/February and this time, we're confident it will be the final build. We'll roll into mass production after that, and aim to ship the Halo Mount in the spring of 2026. While this delay is frustrating, the ultimate end product experience will be worth the wait. For those who ordered the Halo Mount, your headset will first ship to you with the Universal-Fit Cushion, and the Halo Mount will be shipped to you separately when it is ready at no additional cost.

Weekly Updates

With the Holiday Season upon us, we get a lot of customer support inquiries, mostly people asking when their order can be shipped. Internally, we lovingly call these WISMOs (Where Is My Order). While we normally post production updates once a month, we are now posting almost every week to share more detailed, regular updates.

You can expect another production update next week as we get closer and closer to completing every Bigscreen Beyond 2 preorder. You can also expect more information on eyetracking and other product developments from us in the coming weeks.

Unprecedented Demand

Due to unprecedented demand, it is no longer possible to order a Bigscreen Beyond 2 and receive it before Christmas. If you haven't preordered a Bigscreen Beyond yet, you can order a Beyond 2 or 2e from our Store. Orders placed today are expected to ship in January, and quite soon, the ship date for new orders will slip to February. We expect to have sufficient inventory by February for fast shipping within 1-2 days of placing an order.
