Eyetracking with Bigscreen Beyond 2e can be used in VR games either using Bigscreen's native eyetracking software (currently available in the Eyetracking Beta Program) or using 3rd party software such as Babble or ETVR. In this post, we'll explain how the Eyetracking Beta Program works today, and how to get setup with it in VRChat.
Eyetracking Beta Program
The native eyetracking software is currently available in the Eyetracking Beta Program. Rolling out access lets us release new technology updates each week with new features, and to test and scale server GPU training infrastructure carefully. Later this year, we expect this to leave Beta and be seamlessly integrated. Eyetracking will then work instantly and easily, without need for setup processes! For more info, read about our technology and roadmap.
Setting up Beyond 2e's Native Eyetracking Software
Step 1: Install the Bigscreen Beyond Utility.
If you haven't already installed the Bigscreen Beyond software in Steam, you should do that first. Steam should prompt you to install the Bigscreen Beyond Utility as soon as you plug in your Bigscreen Beyond. If it does not show after connecting Beyond to your PC, use this link in a browser: steam://install/2467050
Step 2: Install the Bigscreen Beyond Eyetracking Add-On
Launch the Bigscreen Beyond Utility app from Steam and connect your Bigscreen Beyond 2e to your PC if it is not already plugged in. Under the "Eyetracking" section, the option "Install Eyetracking Add-On" should appear. Installing the add-on is required before eyetracking can be used.
Setting up eyetracking in VRChat
In VRChat, equip an avatar that supports OSC eyetracking. Open the radial menu and enable "OSC" for eyetracking to work in VRChat.
If preferred, you can use the third party VRCFaceTracking app. In the Beyond Eyetracking client, turn on "VRCFT" and turn off "VRChat OSC". Launch VRCFaceTracking through Steam and in the "Module Registry", find and install "BeyondTrackingModule". After it is done, restart VRCFaceTracking.
Future Roadmap
This is the Setup Guide for the Eyetracking Beta Program in the summer of 2025. In addition to technology improvements and new features, we expect to make significant eyetracking user experience improvements to make it work "out of the box" seamlessly with fewer steps and clicks.
