Bigscreen Beyond 2 has started shipping

We're excited to announce that we've started shipping the very first Bigscreen Beyond 2 production units to customers around the world. We expect to ship more headsets in the next 7 weeks than our typical annual shipment volume, and we are prepared to ship 5X more product this year than we shipped in 2023 or 2024.

We launched Bigscreen Beyond 2 just 3 months ago with shocking specs that the VR community did not anticipate: a massive 116° FOV (comparable to leading headsets like the Meta Quest 3 or Valve Index), next-generation pancake optics with edge-to-edge clarity and a huge sweet spot, and advanced features like eyetracking. Magically, we achieved all of that while also reducing weight down to 107 grams.

These specs led to unprecedented demand. We sold more Beyond 2 headsets in the first 11 days than Beyond 1 did in its entire first year in 2023, exceeding our wildest expectations.

In order to satisfy this demand, we've spent recent months scaling up our production by hiring many new Factory Technicians that are responsible for manufacturing, quality control, and fulfillment at our Los Angeles, California factory. We've also hired many new Customer Support specialists – each of which have hundreds or thousands of hours of experience using VR – which has enabled us to met our goal of providing customer support within 1-2 business days on average (and sometimes responding within hours!). In addition to growing our Los Angeles factory, we've also deployed engineers to overseas suppliers to supervise production. We've completed several rounds of pre-production batches (commonly known as EVTs and DVTs), implemented significant computer vision-driven automation, and tackled many engineering and supply chain challenges. We now feel well prepared to ship a significant amount of VR headsets to customers!

In last month's production update, we announced our first delay in production due to improvements we could make to the product and related supply chain considerations. We take these decisions seriously as we have an important obligation to our community to deliver Bigscreen Beyond 2 as quickly as we can without delays, while also upholding a high bar for product quality. When faced with such a tricky decision, we decided it was better to delay the product, take on further costs and losses, and ship a better product for everyone. Although we have officially started shipping Bigscreen Beyond 2, it is still going to take weeks to complete a huge backlog of preorders. For transparency, we breakdown our latest estimated shipment schedule below.

Estimated Shipping Schedule

This schedule is our latest estimated ship date for each type of order, and is not intended as a guaranteed delivery date. A variety of factors in supply chain, component availability, and international shipping logistics may enable some orders to ship faster and some orders to ship slower than our estimates. Our intention is to ship orders as fast as we can in the order by which they were placed.

Surprise upgrades for Beyond 1 customers

On the eve of Beyond 2's launch, we made the decision to secretly hold back Beyond 1 shipments for new customers and automatically upgrade them for free to the Beyond 2. Customers who ordered a Beyond 1 and haven't yet received one will be among the first to receive the Beyond 2. We've started shipping these orders today, and expect to complete these shipments by July 25.

Orders with a Beyond 2 or 2e and a Custom-Fit Cushion

If you ordered in March 2025, the first batches with the Crystal Clear color have started shipping today, with more shipments including Nuclear Orange and Carbon Black going out each week. We expect to complete all March orders by July 25.

If you ordered after April 2, 2025, we remain on track with the July ship date estimated at the time of purchase. Our latest estimate is to expect shipments starting July 14, and completing all April orders sometime between July 28 and August 15.

All orders after May 7, 2025 are on track to ship in August as originally estimated at the time of purchase.

Orders with a Beyond 2 or 2e Upgrade

For those who already own a Beyond 1 and purchased the Beyond 2 Upgrade, we will be shipping in late July through early August. These orders are awaiting the late arrival of a few components such as a custom-designed Special Edition "Cyberbrick" packaging. We think it's well worth the wait, and we anticipate shipping this special edition by the end of July.

Orders with a Beyond 2 or 2e Upgrade with the Accessories Bundle

These orders have started shipping today, and we expect to complete these shipments by July 25.

Orders with a Beyond 2 or 2e and Halo Mount (Universal-Fit Cushion)

Orders with the Halo Mount – instead of the Custom-Fit Cushion – were originally estimated to ship in Q3 at the time of purchase. We are partially on track to ship in Q3 as the Halo Mount has not completed manufacturing, and delayed by a couple weeks. Our previous estimate in the last production update was a September ship date. Our latest estimate is to begin shipping in late September, and many orders will slip into October.

The Halo Mount has been a widely popular feature and our engineers are working as hard as humanly possible to finalize and manufacture it. We wish we could've delivered this product earlier, but nailing the product quality, sourcing the materials, and manufacturing the intricate assemblies takes time. We're utilizing advanced materials and computer-aided manufacturing techniques to achieve tolerances and finishes commonly only seen in high-end tactical and military products to achieve excellent usability, durability, and quality.

If you wish to receive your Beyond 2 sooner, please email Customer Support (support@bigscreenvr.com) to purchase the Custom-Fit Cushion. Adding the Custom-Fit Cushion to your order will enable it to ship faster in August rather than late September/October, and the Halo Mount will ship to you separately when ready.

What's Next

In the coming days, we'll share a development update on eyetracking. We'll explain how eyetracking works today in games like VRChat, how our computer vision algorithms work with training personalized AI models, the development of a universal AI model for eyetracking, the roadmap for integration with broader OpenXR content, and what to expect in the future with advanced features like foveated rendering for racing sim and flight sim games. We'll also have more to share about an exciting new partnership with a major VR game developer!

If you haven't preordered a Bigscreen Beyond 2 yet, you can do so from our Store. Orders placed today are expected to ship between August and September. By late September, we expect to have completed our backlog of orders with sufficient inventory to fulfill orders within a few days.
